Subtle Straightening with Invisalign

If you’ve been considering braces, you might be pleased to learn that Invisalign can transform your smile without the need for obvious wires and brackets. Invisalign is one of the most discreet ways that you can straighten your teeth, which makes it a great treatment option for working professionals.

What is Invisalign and how does it work?

Invisalign is an orthodontic system that corrects spacing issues between teeth. Those with crowded, crooked, overlapped, and gapped teeth can benefit from Invisalign treatment. This type of orthodontia involves wearing removable, retainer-like appliances called “aligners”. Each set of aligners is custom made for a patient’s unique needs.

Treatment is broken up into two-week long phases. Each new phase involves wearing a new, tighter set of aligners. As treatment progresses, people will notice that their gaps between teeth are closing, crooked teeth are moving to an upright position, and other teeth will begin to look less crowded. Once treatment is complete, patients will enjoy a noticeably straighter smile.

Invisalign works similar to other types of orthodontic treatment. Aligners fit snugly over teeth. This will generate gentle force and pressure that moves teeth to healthier positions over time.

What are some benefits to choosing Invisalign treatment?

The most notable advantage of Invisalign treatment is the fact that aligners are almost undetectable to other people. Invisalign is constructed from thin, clear plastic. When aligners are worn over teeth, they are nearly invisible to others.

Another unique benefit to Invisalign treatment is that aligners are removable. Unlike fixed orthodontia, Invisalign is taken out of the mouth for meals and oral hygiene. This feature makes it easy to enjoy a wide variety of food and easily clean one’s teeth and gums.

Invisalign has smooth surfaces that do not scrape against or irritate soft oral tissue such as the linings of the lips and the cheeks. This is one reason that most people view Invisalign as more comfortable than conventional metal and wire braces.

If you think Invisalign might be right for you, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our dentist. Give our team at Hulen Crossing Family Dental a call today to set your appointment.

How long before I start to see results with Invisalign?

While a couple of months may seem like a vague answer, the truth is that everyone is different. The patient’s age and the condition of the malocclusion can be factors. Invisalign aligners work differently than metal bands and brackets so never compare your progress with anyone straightening teeth with traditional metal braces. Talk with your dentist to ascertain when you should expect to see teeth movement.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Once you’ve discussed the options available for you regarding teeth straightening, the next steps involve taking x-rays, photographs, and impressions. These are the tools used by the Invisalign lab to build your teeth straightening program.

Invisalign uses 3D digital technology to map out how each aligner will work. A series of aligners are fabricated that are designed to be replaced every two weeks. With each new aligner, the patient will notice how snug it fits. Over the next two weeks, teeth are being shifted as each new aligner dictates.

This process is repeated until the conclusion of your teeth straightening program. Periodic visits to the dentist to make sure you’re progressing correctly are required.

Many patients notice some change by the end of the second month, but it is not uncommon for a noticeable change to take until about halfway through the program.

Steps to Guarantee Invisalign Success

In order to see progress with Invisalign, the aligners must be worn a minimum of twenty to twenty-two hours every day. Also, the aligners need to be changed according to the schedule provided by your dentist. Keep in mind that each person is unique and some adjustments may take longer than others.

No matter how long your teeth straightening program takes, the final step is very important … that is wearing the retainer. Once your teeth have shifted to a correct occlusion, it takes a period of time for the teeth and bones that hold them in place to develop a memory of their new location. That is what the retainer does.

Cosmetic Dentistry: The Art of Beautiful Smiles

October 15, 2019

Cosmetic dentistry transforms more than just smiles; it transforms lives. Enhancing a smile with treatments like teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns, and Invisalign is an art form. There isn’t a smile that can’t be improved with cosmetic dental treatments. Our dentist has training and experience to help you smile confidently.

Following is helpful information on our most popular cosmetic dentistry services.

Porcelain Veneers

Those in need of a total smile makeover can rejoice. Porcelain veneers can improve problematic smiles into beautiful works of art. Veneers are cosmetic enhancements that conceal imperfections including permanent stains, worn dentition, and misaligned teeth. A veneer is a tooth-shaped enhancement that is custom made from high quality porcelain. When our dentist bonds veneers over the most visible teeth, it produces the appearance of a perfectly straight, proportionate, and bright white smile.

Porcelain Crowns

Crowns can be used in cosmetic dentistry in addition to protecting worn down, broken, and diseased teeth. A crown is a custom made, tooth-shaped restoration that fits over a tooth like a cap. It covers all dental surfaces above the gums.

When a crown is used for cosmetic purposes, it can conceal stains, chipped edges, and other imperfections. Porcelain crowns are indistinguishable from natural teeth. They look and feel like biological tooth structure.

Professional Teeth Whitening

Teeth can stain and become dull with time. Common foods and beverages like berries and coffee contribute to the development of permanent, unsightly stains. The only way to effectively remove permanent stains is with a professional whitening treatment. Unlike many store bought whitening systems, professional whitening won’t contribute to permanent tooth sensitivity. Professional whitening also produces noticeable, long-lasting results.

Invisalign is a unique alternative to conventional orthodontia. Consisting of retainer-like appliances made from clear plastic, this treatment option is ideal for adults because it is discreet and comfortable. Invisalign can improve orthodontic issues such as gapped, crooked, rotated, and crowded teeth.

If you’re unhappy with your smile, there’s no need to suffer with embarrassment and dental imperfections any longer. Call Hulen Crossing Family Dental today to reserve a smile makeover consultation with our caring and experienced dentist.

Invisalign: The Clear Alternative to Braces

April 18, 2019

Having straight teeth allows for more than just a beautiful smile. Correcting an overbite, underbite, and/or crossbite will eliminate areas where plaque tends to form and grow creating opportunities for dental decay or gum disease to develop. A visit with your Invisalign dentist will explain how you can enhance your smile while improving your oral health.

What Is Invisalign?

For decades the traditional way to straighten teeth was with metal bands and brackets. Invisalign replaces a mouthful of metal with transparent, comfortable aligners that will do the job of straightening teeth with many advantages unrealized with standard braces.

A consultation with your dentist will likely involve an exam, dental x-rays, photographs, and impressions. These tools allow the Invisalign lab to fabricate the aligners that will be used to correct your malocclusion.

The aligners are designed to be replaced approximately every two weeks. With each new aligner, teeth are shifting correcting your bite.

Benefits of Invisalign

The aligners are clear allowing teens and adults of all ages to undergo teeth straightening without anyone knowing you are wearing braces.

Another great advantage is the aligners are removable. This allows you to enjoy all your favorite foods. Simply remove while eating a snack or meal, and replace immediately. Daily brushing and flossing can be done easily and without obstruction helping to keep teeth and gums healthy throughout the teeth straightening process.

Invisalign aligners are comfortable. There are no metal or wires to poke or abrade soft oral tissues.

With Invisalign aligners, regular visits to the dentist to have wires adjusted are eliminated. While periodic visits to check progress will be needed, you will simply replace your aligners with the next in the series to keep the teeth straightening program moving forward.

The final step in your smile transformation is to make sure it stays that way. Your dentist will provide you with a retainer designed to be worn as directed. Your teeth and the bones that hold them in place need time to develop a “memory” of their new location. So protect your investment and wear the retainer as directed.

Periodic visits with our dentist throughout the teeth straightening process do not replace visits to have teeth cleaned. Make sure you brush and floss daily, and visit Hulen Crossing Family Dental every six months for teeth cleaning and exam to maintain great dental health.

Will I Wear a Retainer After Invisalign?

July 16, 2018

Filed under: Fort Worth dentist,Invisalign — hulencrossing @ 8:44 pm

Correcting a malocclusion with Invisalign clear aligners will afford you a great new smile. In addition, straighter teeth can improve your dental health as those areas that were collection spots for plaque are minimized giving you a better opportunity to keep your teeth clean. You’ve invested time and money in obtaining this dental correction, so make sure you follow the final step to treatment by wearing the retainer provided by your dentist.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a teeth straightening method that utilizes clear aligners to reposition teeth to correct an overbite, underbite, or crossbite.

You will undergo teeth straightening using clear aligners that will be replaced every two weeks to keep teeth moving to correct your malocclusion.

In addition to being transparent, Invisalign aligners are removable so you can eat all your favorite foods. And you will be able to take them out to perform your daily oral maintenance of brushing and flossing without the obstruction of metal braces.

What is a retainer?

A retainer resembles one of the aligners you wore throughout the teeth straightening process. It is clear, but unlike the aligners that changed regularly the same retainer will be worn for many months.

Once teeth straightening has been achieved, the bones that hold teeth in place need time to adjust to their new position. The retainer performs this function; if not worn as prescribed, teeth could begin to drift back to their original location.

How long is a retainer needed?

Your dentist will provide instructions for how long and when you need to wear your retainer. Some patients are advised to wear the retainer 24/7 for several months followed by months of wearing the retainer only at night. Instructions vary … following them is a critical step in completing the teeth straightening process.

Improve your dental health with Invisalign

Having straight teeth will enhance your appearance, but your dental health will receive a boost as well. When teeth are crooked, it is difficult to keep all surfaces from plaque buildup. When plaque grows, the chances for decay and gum disease are increased. Once plaque forms, only your dental provider can remove it.

Protect your investment by wearing your retainer; and maintain oral health by brushing twice every day, flossing to remove what your toothbrush missed, and visit your dentist every six months for cleaning and exam. Ask us for more information by call our office today!

Am I still a candidate for Invisalign if I’ve had braces?

December 20, 2017

If you’ve had orthodontic treatment with traditional braces, but notice your teeth drifting back out of position, Invisalign can be a great solution to restore your smile. Be sure to consult with your cosmetic dentist to determine the best treatment for you.

What is Invisalign and How Does It Work?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that moves your teeth gradually into the proper position using custom-made, clear plastic trays. Each tray is slightly different, and you wear each one for about two weeks. When you reach the last tray, your teeth will be moved into the right alignment. Once your treatment is complete, it’s very important that you wear a retainer at night—or according to the instructions of your cosmetic dentist—to be sure your teeth don’t move back into a misaligned position.

Your retainer might just be the last tray you wear during your treatment. Alternately, your dentist might provide an additional appliance to serve as your retainer. No matter what kind of retainer you have, be sure to wear it regularly, as recommended by your cosmetic dentist or orthodontist, to be sure your smile stays straight.

Deciding on Invisalign after Braces

Sometimes, your teeth can move back out of alignment even after treatment with traditional braces. This is usually because you haven’t been as diligent as possible about wearing your retainer. If you notice gaps between your teeth even though you wore braces, talk to your orthodontist about the best treatment options. It might not be necessary to go through a full round of orthodontic treatment again. A cosmetic dentist might be able to help with veneers or dental bonding, or it might be better to move the teeth back into place using Invisalign or another orthodontic approach.

If you decide on Invisalign after braces, be sure to follow the guidelines carefully, then be sure to wear your retainer as instructed to keep your teeth from regressing again. If you’re diligent about your treatment and maintenance after treatment, your smile can remain straight and lovely.

Invisalign: the clear alternative to braces

May 4, 2016

In years past, the path to straighter teeth was littered with clunky brackets and wires. Patients pursuing a perfect smile had to endure a metal mouth for months and even years before they could see the results.

Modern technology has improved upon this process, though. Now, patients can bring their teeth into the proper position with Invisalign, which straightens the teeth using a series of clear plastic trays.

The basic premise of Invisalign is similar to that of conventional orthodontic treatment. The teeth are moved through forces that are directly applied to them. The dentist gathers information at an initial appointment through a visual examination, along with x-rays and impressions. That data is then used in treatment planning.

The trays are designed to move the teeth independently. Patients switch trays approximately every two weeks, and it’s important to use the trays in the sequence recommended by the dentist and wear them between 20 and 22 hours to achieve the best outcomes.

Invisalign allows patients to enjoy the results of their treatment in real time, which is a major attraction for some patients. You see your teeth get straighter as it happens. There’s no need to envision what your teeth really look like underneath those braces.

Beyond its aesthetic advantages, Invisalign offers patients a variety of benefits in terms of oral health. The trays can be removed for brushing and flossing, eliminating the need to fumble with floss threaders to keep teeth clean underneath the wires and brackets.

Patients also take out the trays at mealtime, which means no dietary restrictions during treatment.

Furthermore, Invisalign requires fewer visits to the dentist for adjustments or wire replacements. Because the patient is doing most of the work by switching out the trays, dental appointments are only necessary every six weeks or so, allowing the dentist to monitor your progress.

Recent advances in Invisalign technology have made this treatment an option for patients with malocclusions (“bad bites”) in addition to crooked teeth, too.

If you want to straighten your teeth without sporting a mouth full of metal, the answer is clear. Ask Dr. Buck and our professional team if the Invisalign system will be effective in your case. Contact our office serving Fort Worth and schedule your consultation today.

Metal vs. invisible braces

February 5, 2016

Though braces are often thought of as an adolescent coming of age ritual, more and more adults choose to have their teeth treated either to improve their bite or to improve their appearance. Many new options exist today, including tooth-colored braces and invisible braces like Invisalign.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment similar to that provided by traditional braces. However, instead of using metal braces and rubber bands to shift the teeth into place, with invisible braces our cosmetic dentist provides you with custom-made plastic trays. These are made from molds of your teeth, with each one constructed to move your teeth a short distance until you finally reach the final goal of perfect alignment. The orthodontist uses digital images to determine what the final tray should look like, and what the various trays should do to accomplish each incremental movement.

Many adults choose Invisalign because the clear trays are virtually invisible. It’s almost impossible for anyone to tell you have the trays in your mouth unless they look very closely. If, as an adult, you depend upon your appearance for your job, or deal extensively with the public, Invisalign can help you maintain your smile even while you’re receiving orthodontic treatment.

Caring for Invisalign Trays

During treatment, it’s important that you take good care of your alignment trays. Precautions include:

  • Clean your trays after meals and before bed
  • Avoid hot beverages that could deform the trays
  • Wear the trays at least 22 hours out of every day
  • Avoid foods and beverages that could stain your trays

Each tray is worn for about two weeks. When you are done with your treatment, you’ll wear a retainer to keep your teeth from moving out of position. Your retainer might be the last tray in your treatment sequence. You’ll probably wear it just at night, but follow whatever instructions our cosmetic dentist provides.
